Hungarian Wines
Wine production was brought to the Hungarians by the Romans around 1500 years ago, and the country was known for its outstanding wines until the damage of World War II and the Communist period. In recent times Hungarian wines have had a renaissance and have received several prizes in international competitions.

Evidence even suggests that Hungarians even enjoyed wine before the Romans because of the contact with South Caucasus.
Examples of words from Bulgar-Turkic origin:
Szőlő: "grape"
Bor: "wine"
Ászok: "cask"
Áldomás: "blessing", "libation"

Hungary now has 22 designated wine regions, and they all have something of significance to any person who appreciates fine scenery and wants to find out about Hungary on their own. Since Hungary is a rather small country to visit you can without difficulty take in several winemaking cities in the course of a week, either by travelling around or making day trips from Budapest.
