Hungarian Wines South Pannonia - Dél-Pannónia
The region got its name two thousand years ago, when the Roman legions were stationed there. Lying west of the Danube it has everything that makes exploring the countryside and recreation pleasant and diverse. Blessed with natural loveliness and bursting of history, is ideal for boat trips and cycling and also offers a wide assortment of outstanding wines.

Three sites are listed in the UNESCO World Heritage list, the convent at Pannonhalma, the catacombs of Pécs, and lake Fertõ.
Sub-regions:
Pécs: mainly whites. Traditional variety: Cirfandli
Villány: robust, full-bodied, spicy reds. Main varieties: Blauer Portugieser, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and occasionally Pinot Noir.
Szekszárd: full-bodied reds, with a bit of spice. Famous wine: Szekszárdi Bikavér. Main varieties: Kadarka, Kékfrankos, Cabernet franc, Merlot Tolna
